Choosing between Pilates and Weight training

Pilates equipment combines core training with strength training for your legs, hips, arms, shoulders and inner thighs. The machines give you full-body resistance training much like a weightlifting routine, but don't bulk you up. With weightlifting you build up bulk in your muscles that must be maintained by constant training. The moment you stop lifting weights, the muscles lose their tone. This reaction of the body is the trouble with weight lifting. Not so in Pilates. As you build muscle tone with spring resistance, your muscle will get definition without very much in size.

But the main difference between Pilates training and weight training is that Pilates exercises are complete movements that require many muscles (including smaller muscles around your joints) to work at once, while weight training works muscles in isolation. Strengthening smaller muscles can give you the shape you want.

Pilates method promises no quick fixes or sudden improvements. However, with concentration and commitment, the end result will be rewarding and stay with you for a lifetime.

"After 10sessions you will feel the difference, after 20 sessions you will see the difference and after 30 sessions you will have a new body", Joseph Pilates.
